Prepare without oversharing
Ask which documents the property requires and how to provide them securely. Keep sensitive financial and identification documents out of general inquiry forms. Different landlords have different review processes.
Clarify fees and representation
Understand whom the broker represents and what you are agreeing to pay. NYC provides current guidance on the FARE Act and rental broker fees; review that guidance and any agreement before proceeding.
Leave room for the details
Read the lease, check move-in requirements, and confirm the actual apartment condition. A little time spent on the details can prevent surprises after keys change hands.
